For decades, the U.S. stood as the preeminent leader in global conservation. Overnight, $500 million in vital funding and decades of institutional expertise vanished. Rooted in core American values, this investment stood as a cornerstone of global security, economic prosperity, and public health.
For decades, global conservation was anchored by American leadership. Today, that foundation is gone.
Funding is Gone: Within days, $500 million in annual support for critical ecosystems from the Amazon to our global oceans was completely eliminated.
U.S. Government Capacity is Dismantled: The human capital, the experts who were harnessing lessons on urgent conservation efforts, were pushed out. Without our work, it could take decades to rebuild capacity .
The Threat is Real: This isn’t just a crisis for wildlife. It is a direct threat to American values, security, interests, and investments.
Reimagining Global Conservation is mobilizing a broad, bipartisan coalition to redesign before rebuilding and develop a practical playbook to allow the U.S. government to quickly re-engage and to ensure our work resonates with future administrations. The playbook weaves:
Practical knowledge that was lost with the dismantling of global conservation infrastructure
Agile, innovative structures that respond to current challenges
Data-driven frameworks for international investment
Models that meld localization with global goals
Reimagining Conservation is a broad-based, bipartisan alliance designed to get the ideas, partnerships, and tools ready for the next era of U.S. engagement in global conservation. We believe that protecting the world’s natural heritage is not a partisan issue, but a cornerstone of global stability, American leadership, and a shared human responsibility grounded in values that transcend politics, cultures, faiths, and philosophies.
Our strength lies in the diversity of our perspectives. We are not a monolithic group; rather, we are a deliberate assembly of stakeholders from across the political and professional spectrum.

Local & Global Practitioners: Voices from rural and urban communities, as well as NGOs on the front lines, ensuring our “plays” are grounded in reality, not just theory.
Veteran Policy Experts: Former and current officials and advisors with decades of experience in the public sector, bringing deep institutional knowledge of how government functions.
National Security Professionals: Leaders who understand the direct link between natural resource scarcity, global instability, and U.S. security interests.
The Private Sector: Business leaders, philanthropy and innovators who recognize that sustainable conservation is an economic imperative.
Advocates & Critics: We intentionally include both the traditional champions of conservation and its most vocal critics to ensure our solutions are “stress-tested” and politically viable.
We act as a driver for change. By convening these disparate groups, we facilitate the information exchange necessary to transform complex global challenges into a practical, bipartisan playbook for the next era of U.S. leadership.
